Here's what David recommends to first year beekeepers. Start off with a complete hive with all the extra necessary items you'll need for a successful year in beekeeping.
DAVID'S COMPLETE START UP KIT
Many people call us and say something like, "Hey, just tell us what we need to get started keeping bees". So we decided to design such a startup kit. We named it David's Complete Start Up Kit, because David recommends doing it HIS WAY!
This package includes the following items:
1. One screen bottom board. David is adamant about beekeepers using screen bottom boards as part of the IPM (Integrated Pest Management)approach to combating mites. This bottom board also comes with a entrance reducer cleat so that you can adjust the opening of your hive.
2. Two deep hive bodies. Each deep hive body comes with 10 wooden frames and 10 sheets of plasticell foundation.
3. One medium honey super with 10 wooden frames and 10 sheets of plasticell foundation.
4. One inner cover with a bee escape.
5. One telescoping outer cover with metal covering.
6. One entrance feeder. Comes with the lid that can fit over your canning jar.
7. One plastic pith beekeeping helmet.
8. One veil to protect your head. Fits on to pith helmet.
9. One hive tool.
10. One smoker.
The bottom boards, hive bodies, super bodies, frames, entrance feeders, inner covers, top covers and entrance cleats are all made with the skillful hands of our family workers. The corners of the hive bodies and supers are rabbet joints.
