1 Green Drone Comb For Varroa Trap. Instructions included.
Green Drone Comb is a one piece plastic deep frame/foundation for natural trapping Varroa Mites. David always uses this spring/summer/fall (start in early spring) along with powder sugar dustings, integrated pest management, and breaking the queen's brood cycle (you can find all this in beginner's and mite control classes right here online.) The female Varroa Mites prefer laying eggs in drone cells because of the drones' longer gestation period. This is a great non-chemical way to greatly reduce the number of mites in your hive.
Place the drone frame in position 3 or 4 of your brood box, and once the majority of the cells are capped (which can take 2-3 weeks), simply pull out the drone frames and place in freezer for 48 hours to kill the drone pupae and mites in the comb. Replace it with your second drone frame for the cycle to continue in your hive. Scrape open the cells (or leave the frame as is) and then place back in the hive. The workers will clean out the dead drones along with all the dead mites. This frame is bright green so you can easily identify it in the hive.
If you have limited freezer space, you can simply scrape off the capped drone cells and let the bees rebuild the comb each time.
